Tesco Harrogate granted planning permission

Tesco Harrogate granted planning permission

April 4, 2023

In late 2021 Tesco re-submitted an application to Harrogate Borough Council to build a store on the former gas works site on the A59, Skipton Road.

We’ve worked closely with Tesco to meet the project requirements and last month we received the good news that planning permission has now been granted.

Minimising environmental impact has been key in this project. The design of the building includes passive and active design strategies, such as use of natural daylighting, enhanced fabric efficiencies, waste heat recovery from refrigeration systems, low energy lighting, building energy management systems, point of use electric water heaters and air source heat pumps. The proposed measures are expected to show a 50% carbon dioxide reduction and a 41% energy reduction when assessed against Part L2A 2013 Building Regulations.

This was an interesting project which had many factors to overcome including the use of ‘biodiversity offsetting’ which is integral to the concept of overall ‘biodiversity net gain’ and to allow this site to be viable for development.

It’s a local one for us and we’re really excited to see it come to life right on our doorstep.
