National Park Design

Project Overview

Project: The design of a mixed use scheme in a National park
Client: Undisclosed
Size: 45,000sqft
Status: Detailed Design

The commission brief was for the design of a mixed use facility in a national park.

The design included, a hotel, a museum, a micro-brewery and local produce store, a food store, retail space and restaurants.

Due to the sensitivity of the site it was vital to provide detailed design at an early stage to ensure that we met with the local authorities aspirations.  The scheme required exceptional design with quality local materials, the design response therefore interpreted the local vernacular to be delivered in a contemporary development.  The site is highly visible from both the immediate loci, but also the surrounding mountains and thus the design context remained foremost in the design response developed.

Disability Action Yorkshire have a long relationship with SSA-Architects which began with the design of our residential home for younger adults with physical disabilities when they impressed us with their commitment to ensuring that the design aided full accessibility and independence.  They have remained firm supporters of and amongst other events run an annual bike ride raising much needed funds to support our work.  They show a genuine interest in our work and in the ongoing needs and aspirations of disabled people.  We consider SSA-Architects to be true and valued friends of the charity.
