Project: Development of 4 town house dwellings off Knaresborough High Street
Client: CFK Developments Ltd (privately-owned professional developer based in Knaresborough)

The Commission

The construction of 4 new townhouse properties with associated amenity space and parking provision. The homes orientate towards the rear of the bank in order to enhance sense of place, whilst the elevations remain subservient to Claro Chambers and that of surrounding properties. Vernacular materials are utilised with a modern aesthetic and in order to further enhance the design a hidden gutter and an upstand are visible.

The design intention is sympathetic and respectful of the listed building with the facing material of stone reflecting the immediate context. Introducing an upstand and hidden gutter detail to the eaves reduces the visual impact of the mass of the built form.

The elevations have intentionally introduced a level of verticality in the proposed openings as a reflection of the context.

The proposals were constructed utilising offsite construction, SIPS panels for the main structural strategy and clad in a stone to enable the proposals to reflect the surrounding context and respect the existing listed buildings.
