Project: Tesco Superstore
Client: Tesco Plc
Size: 20,000sqft
Status: Completed
Tesco’s latest superstore opened in the seaside town of Mablethorpe on 28th October, creating 115 jobs.
The 20,000sqft store in the East Lindsey district of Lincolnshire created much needed retail space for the local community, including a self-serve petrol station, 218 parking spaces, electrical vehicle charging points, a recycling centre and generous amounts of feature landscaping. The superstore is also part of Tesco’s Community Food Connection (CFC) which takes fit for use surplus food, donating it daily to local groups and food banks, helping those who need it most in the community.
S+SA Architects was fully immersed in Tesco’s condensed delivery programme from RIBA work stages 1 to 6, which included an impressive 21 week construction period by contractors, ISG. We were delighted to see Tesco Mablethorpe welcoming its first customers last week.
Disability Action Yorkshire have a long relationship with SSA-Architects which began with the design of our residential home for younger adults with physical disabilities when they impressed us with their commitment to ensuring that the design aided full accessibility and independence. They have remained firm supporters of and amongst other events run an annual bike ride raising much needed funds to support our work. They show a genuine interest in our work and in the ongoing needs and aspirations of disabled people. We consider SSA-Architects to be true and valued friends of the charity.
